Many of our sisters are involved in working with homeless people. One sister works at Covenant House in Hollywood as Spiritual Minister to homeless and at-risk youth between the ages of 18 to 24. Young people become homeless for many reasons. Many have grown up in the Foster Care system, some have been incarcerated, or victims of abuse, gang violence, trafficking. Some are homeless because of their sexual orientation or lack of documentation. Sisters advocate for young people who are discriminated against and support families and young people who are in prison. This ministry has developed so that the homeless young adults help the poor by coordinating service projects at an orphanage in Tijuana, Mexico and house building projects in Tijuana.
Another sister is involved with a project for homeless people - this entails serving dinner to about eighty to a hundred homeless men women and children every Saturday. They also provide them with the necessities of food and other basics for the oncoming week! In some cases they receive help in finding a job and getting off the street.
